World Space Week ’17

The government of India’s coveted space agency, ISRO, conducted The World Space Week, for the first time in NIT Warangal. The two-day event held on 6th and 7th of October, 2017 had multiple attractions including exhibition, quizzes and guest lectures by eminent ISRO scientists. The event had an enormous footfall of about 15,000 students from in and around Warangal.

Vigilance Awareness Week ’17

In an attempt to address the deep-rooted prevalence of corruption, Vigilance Awareness Week was organized with the motto “Say no to corruption”, which was well propagated throughout the campus. In order to garner awareness, several events including quizzes, debates, elocution and essay writing competition were organised with Anti-Corruption as the central theme.

 

Institute Freshers ’17

The newly admitted B’Tech students had rollicking fun in the Institute Freshers Party held on 9th October 2017, hosted by the Students’ Council. Days before the Freshers’ event, Council also conducted Sports Carnival, an annual sports-fest organized especially for the freshers. Chess, Cricket, Badminton, Basketball were a few of the events organized in the Carnival. Other fun events like the Mannequin Challenge, Dubsmash and dance competitions were also part of the celebrations.

Convocation ’17

On 11th November, hundreds of students from the 2017 batch ocked the campus donning their white kurtas and bright smiles. The nostalgia-filled- excitement was palpable.

Nature Club’s Event

Nature Club grabbed hordes of eyeballs this year with their Sky Lantern event, an event that promoted an eco-friendly Diwali. Other events included: Rangoli making, Diya painting, and balloon-orb painting.

Elections ’17

Student Council elections in NITW have always been the most-followed affair of NITW. But this year, the whole election process got a whole new twist with the administration imposing the cut-off criterion. For the first time in the history of Council elections, the mode of elections was made direct, which required the students to cast their vote for eight candidates. This year also saw a first-ever presidential debate between the contestants. In a roaring victory, the entire panel of Mr. Kanuri won, leading by a prodigious 1000 votes. In a commendable gesture of bonhomie, Mr. Papineni congratulated Mr. Kanuri, post the election, leaving no room for any anticipated animosity.

TEDxNITW ’17

For the first time ever, NITW organised a TEDx event. The TEDx team put forth an impressive show. Indian Cricketer Shikha Pandey and Sandeep Vanga, the director of the hit Telugu flick Arjun Reddy were among the list of speakers.

Facial Recognition Feat

G. Meghana Reddy and Devendra Patil did NITW proud with their paper titled ‘Disguised face identification’. Plaudits and praise poured in from all over. Their work is touted to revolutionize the crime detection scenario. They were featured in various newspapers and media websites.

No Shave November ’17

No Shave November contest organized by the Photography club gave the men on campus a reason not to shave! While some attempted their best James Harden impression, others set a standard of their own. In the end, Rakesh from 3 rd year, Civil, was declared the winner making him the manliest man on the campus. Honorable mention: Jithu G. Panicker, the runner-up.

Presidential Debate ’17

The English LDC organized the Presidential debate, which paved the way for a future of transparent and open elections in NITW. The auditorium saw an unprecedented crowd as students came in large numbers to support their candidate.

Acoustic Lounge

The big Music Club event of the semester was everything it promised to be. With a moody tone emphasized by the beautiful decoration, the music flowed through the evening like a cool breeze. The aesthetic vibe definitely caught the fancy of the students as they ocked around NAB for the event.

Technozion ’17

The October weekend starting 27th to 29th has been an incredibly memorable and lit one at NIT Warangal! The technical fest – Technozion, was organized by the students and for the students. In the three days, 42 events were held in all – among the likes of Spotlight events Hovermania, Avion E, Jahaaz, Wreckage, Robowars, National Programming League. The newest additions were Start-Up Expo (Pitch It To Win It) and Makeathon for avid tech enthusiasts.

Appointment of New Director

In October, MHRD appointed new directors to 11 National Institute Of Technology(NITs). JNTU Hyderabad Director and Professor of Civil Engineering, Dr. N.V. Ramana Rao assumed charge as the Director of NIT, Warangal. He promised to work to the best of his capacity and make sure the institute scaled new heights under him. With the appointment of the new Director, the college is expected to reach a position it rightfully deserves.

Inter NIT Gymnasium

The achievements of our students in the eld of sports are unforgettable and they have made NIT Warangal roar with pride. A group of 13 people represented NIT Warangal at the inter-Nit gymnasium competition held at MNIT Jaipur and proved their worth by bringing home 15 medals in bodybuilding, powerlifting, and weightlifting. Also, not forgetting Abhishek Joe C who bagged the Mr.NIT title.
