Plantation Drive

A Tree Plantation drive took place on the early morning of July 29th near Kalam Hall as part of the Induction Program. The freshers planted “Ganneru” saplings and were later addressed by Chief Conservator of Forests, Warangal, Shri MJ Akbar, IFS; Shri K Purushottam, District Forest Officer, Warangal; Deans, TEQIP Coordinator and Faculty In-charge, Green Campus.

Induction Program

A two-week Induction Program was conducted by the Institute for first year B. Tech students from 23rd July to 4th August 2018. Aimed at familiarizing students with the college culture, it included sports and games, creative arts and also discussions with faculty regarding human values.

Alumnus visit

Mr. Manu Khandelwal, a 2015 batch graduate from the Institute and a postgraduate student at Cornell University, USA had come to interact with students. He spoke about his experiences in college and abroad and stressed on the value of design thinking. With regard to IG, he suggested ideas like engaging more alumni, the importance of proper documentation, collaborations with other entities in college etc.

Back to the Horizon

Almost fifteen alumni of 1989-93 batch who were celebrating their silver jubilee addressed the students with an aim to wipe out erroneous illusions regarding careers. The talk ranged from pursuing higher studies to various job sectors to entrepreneurship. An important lesson shared was, “life offers us chances, and we need to keep experimenting with them.”

Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

Celebrating sixty successful years, the Institute will be organizing a yearlong diamond jubilee celebration starting from October 2018. The celebrations will be inaugurated by the Honorable Vice-President of India, Sri M. Venkaiah Naidu on October 10, 2018. Open house lectures by eminent personalities including Nobel laureates, the establishment of new laboratories, conferences and seminars will be conducted as part of the celebrations.

Vivek Agnihotri’s Visit

Well known Bollywood director, producer and screenwriter, Vivek Agnihotri visited the campus on 2nd August as part of the Induction Program. While addressing the students which was also live streamed on YouTube by PGC, he explained the importance of creativity and innovation in engineering. He received a standing ovation from the students and was felicitated by Prof. LRG Reddy, Dean Student Welfare.

NITW for Kerala

The NITW Students’ Council, in association with Aashayam successfully completed a collection drive to help the victims of floods in Kerala. A stellar amount of Rs 30,000 that was collected has been spent on buying all of the essentials. Donations made by the students in the form of clothes, food, medicines, disinfectants, etc. were sent to the collector’s office to be transported to the relief camps.

Student Elections

On 14th August 2018, our institute had elections for the Student Council 2018-2019. Students competed for various posts including but not limited to class representatives, secretaries and deputy secretaries for various departments, etc. The system followed was a departure from the past with a vision to better the efficiency of the student body. We hope that the student body elected leads us to a better NIT Warangal.

CEA aptitude mock test

The Civil Engineering Association conducted an online Mock test consisting of quantitative aptitude, verbal and reasoning questions. There was a whopping participation from over 770 students involving all years and branches. Initiatives like these help students self analyze and are hoped would be a great help for placements and internships.

IG Open House

On the 12th of August, Innovation Garage held an Open House session for the freshers. The event was an orientation on the various project groups at IG, which was followed by talks from the ML, Drone and IoT groups, and also a brief discussion on what could be expected in the upcoming ARDUINO workshop, details of registration process etc. Last but not the least, they also had a bunch of projects on display for the freshers to check out, some of which are; Cars from the Baja and Mech Xhausters team, Quad bike, Chem-e-car, Voice car, Game Automators, etc. Overall, the event was nothing short of a blast!

PULSE Magazine Distribution

The Newsletter and Magazine Committee of our college released their annual magazine for the year 2017-2018 for circulation amongst the student fraternity. The magazine was inaugurated by our institute director, Prof. NV Ramana Rao. The first phase began with the distribution of the magazines to the faculties of various departments which was followed by distribution among recently graduated students from UG, PG and PhD. The subsequent phases are expected to tentatively begin from the next week.

CHEA and IICHE inaugural 2018

On the 9th of August, CheA and IIChE student chapter conducted their inaugural for this academic year in their department seminar hall. Attending this event were the Direct-in-charge, Professor Jayakumar, Dean of Student Affairs, Professor L. R. G. Reddy and Chief Guest for the evening, Professor Abhijit Deshpande from IIT Madras (Chemical Engineering). The event saw the introduction of new members of each student body, and was commemorated by the lighting of the lamp, and speeches by respective General Secretaries. Professor Abhijit gave a short presentation on roles of a Chemical Engineer and the vast opportunities they get.

TZ Plantation Initiatives

Technozion 2018 in association with Nature Club conducted a plantation drive in front of the admin building on the occasion of Independence Day as part of the fest’s initiatives. This event saw a lot of people come together and play their part in making our campus a green and environment friendly place.

Convocation 2018

On Saturday, 18th August, the institute witnessed its 16th convocation. 1444 students graduated this year with Mr. Priyam Khandelwal being recognized as the institute topper. Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary and Chair professor, Department of Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, was the Chief Guest. Addressing the graduates, he said that focus on knowledge is more important than grades. He later was interviewed by the Newsletter and Magazine Committee.

IG Workshop

Innovation Garage, on Sunday, 19th August, conducted an Arduino workshop exclusively for freshers. Around 100 teams, which was close to 300 freshers, participated in the workshop. The participants were mentored by a group of 20 second year mentors and the IG team. The workshop was conducted in 2 sessions, from 9 am to 12.30 am and then from 2 pm to 5 pm. Apart from learning the basics of Arduino micro-controllers, the freshers got a chance to interact with seniors in the institute, including Gold medallist of the 2014-18 batch, Mr. Priyam Khandelwal

Institute wins Green Campus award

The Telangana Harithra Mithra Awards (THMA) is an initiative by the Telangana state government to encourage and develop green-preservation and pro-nature sentiment across the Telangana state. Our institute, NITW has won the best, green and clean tag along with Rs. 2 lakh cash prize in the institution/organization category (state level) for the year 2018. This prize was presented on 15th August by Dy. Chief Minister of Telangana state, Sri Kadiyam Srihari to our Dean IRAA, Professor Jayakumar sir on the morning of Independence Day celebrations.
